UNEQUAL ACCESS TO DRINKING WATER AROUND THE WORLD
Water is the main resource on earth as it covers 70 % of our planet. However, only 3 % of the world’s water is fresh water and 2/3 of it is actually available for our use.
As a result, 1.1 billion people worldwide lack access to water, while they are 2.4 billion to suffer from inadequate sanitation and to be exposed to waterborne diseases such as cholera, food poisoning, hepatitis A and typhoid fever. Two million people, mostly children, die each year from diarrheal diseases alone. As the global population steadily grows and water resources shrink, one of the key challenge of the millennium will be to provide a better access to freshwater to a growing population.
IMPACT OF WATER SHORTAGE ON THE WORLD POPULATION
Food shortages
Diseases and death are not the only consequences of water scarcity. The lack of water also leads to food shortages as it impacts negatively agriculture and livestock farming. Indeed, large quantities of water are required in order to irrigate and feed the livestock. Less water available for agriculture means difficulties for food production to keep up with rising demand which results in constant hunger and low quality of life for millions of people.
Global Conflicts
Freshwater resources are becoming extremely scarce and are often shared by two or more countries which may lead in a near future to more international conflicts over water resource. The current conflicts over water occur mainly in the Middle East (conflict among Turkey, Syria, and Iraq over the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers and the Jordan River conflict among Israel, Lebanon, Jordan and the State of Palestine), in Africa (conflicts among Egypt, Ethiopia, and Sudan over the Nile river), and in Central Asia but could extend to other areas due to global warming and water pollution.
BENEFITS OF OUR SOLUTION FOR SOLVING WATER SHORTAGE
HydroEnertech is a disruptive technology which provides fresh and clean water on a large scale by desalinating and turning seawater and contaminated water into drinking-water, safe for human consumption. On the contrary, our solution is simpler and cheaper to set up because it can provide abundant water to drought-hit areas at a low price. The implementation of HydroEnertech in those areas will have a positive impact on agriculture and will help solving the global food crisis.
